Welcome to Cappadocia, a fascinating region of Turkey famous for its rock-cut churches, fairy chimneys, and cave residences. Explore the open-air museums in Goreme and Zelve, take in the spectacular sunrise from a hot air balloon, and go hiking through the scenic valleys to really immerse yourself in the bizarre environment. Enjoy the regional food, the flavours of traditional Turkish fare, and Cappadocia’s world-famous wines. Cappadocia provides an amazing experience that will wow you with its rich history and alluring beauty.

Hotel rates in the Cappadocia region soared when President Recep Tayip Erdoan declared the Feast of Sacrifice vacation to be nine days long.

Interest in the Cappadocia Region, where horse, ATV safari, jeep safari, and balloon tours are prevalent, has increased for the nine-day Feast of Sacrifice holiday in addition to the fairy chimneys, underground and above ground cities, interesting valleys, and rock formations that are included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Following the Eid al-Adha holiday’s extension to nine days, there was a significant rise in reservations in the area, which is busy as of the season.

4 Days Turkey Tour – Cappadocia Nemrut Gobeklitepe SanlıUrfa

The Feast of Sacrifice vacation has been extended to 9 days, according to Yakup Dinler, secretary general of the Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TÜROFED). Long holidays are actually known as holidays that do not benefit the Cappadocia region. People typically like the coastal location because the holiday is as long as the season and the weather is warming. Eighty to ninety percent of the reservations in the Cappadocia Region are filled during the first part of the Eid holiday.

“There weren’t many local tourists among them. After the Eid vacation is extended to nine days, I believe we will become more focused during the first portion of the Eid tali, which is the time from Eid al-Fitr to the feast day. When making travel arrangements to Cappadocia, we encourage our visitors to not leave it too late. They must remember that as the occupancy rate rises, rates will as well. Give them as much time as possible to make their bookings. We want them to take pleasure in Cappadocia’s Feast of Sacrifice.”

Following the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, which left devastation in 11 provinces, earthquake victims who were lodged in dorms in Nevşehir travelled to the Cappadocia region. The earthquake victim handbook provided the earthquake victims with more information about Cappadocia.

The first stop on the tour taken by earthquake sufferers during Tourism Week activities was Nevşehir Kayaşehir. Earthquake sufferers travelled to Cappadocia and explored the Kaymakl Underground City, Ürgüp Üç Güzeller, Zelve and Paşaba ruins, and the Avanos neighbourhood. Selahattin Yazc, whose home in Nevşehir was severely destroyed when he was trapped in the Malatya earthquake, said, “Fortunately, our health is in good health, we are travelling, we are exploring. May Allah protect us from harm. We are being led and moved around by our state. We cherished Cappadocia. These locations are stunning.

Ramazan Yazc expressed his satisfaction with the vacation.

“Historical locations are very beautiful,” remarked Yazc. We had a tour of the tunnel city. Excellent locations. I urge everyone to attend.”

12 Days Turkey and Jordan Tour-Istanbul Cappadocia Jordan

In his statement, Kahramanmaraş native Süleyman Bozolan stated,

“We came here from Kahramanmaraş following the earthquake. The Mustafapaşa village headman took care of it first. Right now, we’re residing in dorms. Süleyman Bozolan remarked, “These places will not be good for us. I want to get back to my homeland as soon as feasible. Despite the fact that these places are really attractive, we do not wish to remain.”

Gamze Demirci said, “I did not benefit anyone in Osmaniye because I was also an earthquake victim. I am happy that I was able to serve the earthquake victims and show them about the Cappadocia region. I had to bring my kids to Nevşehir because my husband is from there. I felt the cold at that time that I had not seen in Osmaniye. The earthquake, the rain, and the cold all occurred at the same moment.

One of the most well-liked travel spots in Turkey is Cappadocia. It is over 700 kilometres from Istanbul and situated in the middle of Turkey. It is a place of incredible natural beauty well known for its lovely valleys, unusual cave hotels, mystic underground cities, and fairy chimneys (unique rock formations). The most well-known attractions in Cappadocia are its beautiful sunrise hot air balloon flights.

Many hiking paths can be found in Cappadocia’s historic valleys. You’ll need at least a week to complete all of the hiking in this area because there is so much of it. One of the most notable features of Cappadocia is Goreme. It has historical sites, an outdoor museum, undiscovered churches, and unusual frescoes.

Contrary to popular opinion, Cappadocia is a whole area rather than a city. Little towns like Ortahisar, Goreme, Uchisar, and others may be found there. Three dormant volcanoes, Mt. Erciyes, Mt. Hasan, and Mount. Gullu, encircle these regions. They have helped create Cappadocia’s fascinating terrain and its distinctive cave hotels. A sought-after experience, these cave hotels are emblematic of Cappadocia. You don’t want to miss the sunrise there, either!

4 Days Turkey Tour – Cappadocia Nemrut Gobeklitepe SanlıUrfa

11 thousand 761 local and international tourists took part in the hot air balloon tours offered in the Cappadocia region in February 2023 and saw the distinctive beauty of the region from the air. One of Turkey’s top tourist attractions, Cappadocia, has already entered the 2023 travel season.

11 000 761 people took part in the hot air balloons that rose to the sky and carried passengers to their baskets as the sun rose in Cappadocia last month. The natural view of Cappadocia was praised by visitors who observed the distinctive vista made by the fairy chimneys from the air while riding on balloons.

The number of participants in the balloon trips in February of the previous year was 16,305, while in February of this year, 11,265 visitors took part. The statement claims that due to unfavourable weather circumstances, balloons were allowed to fly for 8 days last month.

In the Cappadocia region of Nouşehir, central Turkey, ancient underground towns that date back thousands of years offer a fascinating historical experience that teaches visitors about the remnants of ancient life in those places. In Cappadocia, tourists can take balloon tours, go on quad bike excursions, go on foot tours, and experience the historical buildings and beautiful natural surroundings as well as go underground to see the ancient civilizations’ ruins.

The Purpose

The region’s soft tuff rocks, which were used to carve out the underground cities when they were first created between 3000 and 500 BC, were then expanded upon by the Hittites, followed by the Roman and Byzantine eras, until they reached their present size.

As there are rooms, warehouses, water cellars, a church, and other rooms connected to one another by short corridors, these towns were constructed in a manner commensurate with the requirements and conditions of housing required for a community to be able to live in them temporarily.

Six of the 20 cities that have been found in the area have been lit by Turkish authorities so that tourists can descend about 100 metres underground.

12 Days Turkey and Jordan Tour-Istanbul Cappadocia Jordan

A Tourist Attraction

In the period between January and October of this year, 459,456 visitors to the city of “Kaymakli,” 298,117 visitors to the city of “Drin Koyu,” 194 thousand and 41 visitors to the city of “Ozkonak,” 9 thousand and 172 visitors to the city of “Mazi,” and 4 thousand and 846 visitors to the city of “Tatlarin.”

The city of “Qaya Shahr,” which opened to tourists in 2020, saw 87,322 visitors between January and October, according to statistics from the Nuşehir municipality, increasing the total number of local and foreign visitors to underground towns to 152,954.

Every part of Cappadocia is rich in tourism, according to Ozay Onur, the head of the Chamber of Tourist Guides in Nuşehir, who also emphasised that the region’s underground cities are among its most popular tourist destinations. He said that some regions of the world have wealth both above and below the surface, adding that Cappadocia has both types of prosperity. He added:

“In Cappadocia, you wander underground, explore the surface, and ascend to the sky, as it is the only place in the world where the three are present together, as we see that underground cities have been used since the Hittite era, and we do not know how many cities are underground in the region because we have not discovered them all yet.”

The sweeping beauty of Cappadocia’s bizarre valleys is one of Turkey’s most popular tourist attractions, and one of the most popular ways to see it is from above. Cappadocia is a stunning and amazing environment that has been formed over thousands of years by erosion. These cave-like houses and rock-hewn sanctuaries date back to the 4th century, during the Byzantine post-Iconoclastic period. What’s remained now are stunning troglodyte settlements, underground civilizations that once housed human dwellings, and breathtaking valleys that stretch for a considerable distance. Hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia is what people remember the city for. Let’s spotlight the things to know before having a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia,

Year-Round Hot Air Balloon Season

Hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia is spectacular not just because of the distinctive and rocky environment, but also because the balloons fly for 250 days out of the year, contrasted with 60 days elsewhere in Europe. You may soar above the terrain not only in the summer and spring, but also in the winter to explore the winter wonderland. The greatest time to go hot air ballooning in Cappadocia is from April to November, when the weather conditions are the most suitable.

1 Day Cappadocia Tour With Hot Air Balloon Ride

Heavy Duty Training of Pilots

Balloons, like planes, must be registered with the aviation authority and undergo regular safety inspections to guarantee that they are safe to fly. Pilots for hot air balloons in Cappadocia must also pass tests, have a certain number of flight hours under their belt, and pass flight tests and medical exams.

Many Cappadocia hot air balloon pilots have been flying for decades; ours, with Voyager Balloons, had over 20 years of experience! However, there have been a number of mishaps in the past, some of which resulted in casualties; mishaps can still occur even with the best pilots and ground workers, just as they can when stepping into a plane.

More than 100 Balloons in Air

Cappadocia may be the only spot on the planet where hundreds of balloons fly practically every morning, providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience to over 2000 people. Up to 100 balloons are permitted to launch before daybreak, with another 50 permitted to launch half an hour after sunrise.

Early Booking for Hot Air Balloon Ride

Since hot air ballooning is the most popular activity in Cappadocia, you must reserve as soon as possible and plan ahead, as balloons sell out months ahead of time. You are not guaranteed a seat only because 100 or so balloons are released every morning. One of my top recommendations for visiting Cappadocia is to stay for at least two to three nights to increase your possibilities of getting on a flight in the event if your flight is interrupted due to bad weather.

5 Days Turkey Tour – Istanbul Cappadocia Tour

Landing on Your Back

If you’ve never had a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia before, you’ll be startled to learn that this is a frequent landing position, particularly if the basket bounces or tips at an angle in heavy winds. Because catastrophic mishaps have occurred during landings, it is critical to follow the pilot’s directions to the instructions.

Landings take place on any large surface, like parks, empty fields, school grounds, or roadways, because hot air balloons fly with the wind and their flight trajectory is nearly totally reliant on wind speed and direction. “Chase crews” follow the balloon via radio communication with the pilot in order to meet you with the balloon trailer at the landing place.

3,000 Feet above Ground

If you’re afraid of heights, you should know that hot air balloons in Cappadocia can travel anywhere from tree level to 3,000 feet above earth – we reached 800 metres on our hot air balloon journey in Cappadocia! Experienced pilots may even take you down into valleys with “fairy chimney” rock formations and into Goreme town. Based on the wind, the balloons can move at rates ranging from 2 to 22 kilometres per hour.

7 Days Turkey Tour Package – Highlights of Turkey

Flight Cancellation

Indeed, hot air ballooning in Cappadocia is available all year, however flights are occasionally cancelled due to inclement weather. Flights take place on average 250 days a year, however if there is rain, heavy wind, fog, snow, or thunderstorms, the Civil Aviation Authority can block all balloon flights.

Hot Air Balloon Ride in Cappadocia is Expensive

A hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia costs between US$145-200 per person, depending on which firm you choose and how many people are in the basket. Because of the strong demand, prices are usually fixed, so don’t expect any discounts.

Cappadocia’s hot air balloon flights last around one hour in the air. Based on the quantity of fuel on board, the weight limit of the participants, and the weather, certain flights can last up to an hour and a half. This event lasts roughly 3 hours if we include the hotel pick-up and flight preparation (1 hour), plus the balloon ride (1 hour), champagne toast, and hotel drop (1 hour).

You’ll be served a light breakfast with tea, coffee, and cake while the preparations are underway. Furthermore, the status of the balloon departure permission was examined. After you’ve been granted permission, you’ll embark on an amazing adventure.
