It is one of the islands in the Marmara Region’s Balkesir Province. This island separated from the Kapda peninsula many years ago, becoming an island. This island served as a fortification during the Byzantine era. At the time, it went by the name Afousia.

The island served as a residential place for the Arab armies besieging Istanbul between 672 and 678. During the Ottoman Period, the island’s name changed to Island of Arabs as a result of the Arabs who Turkified over the years. The island’s Greek population was relocated to Greece when the Exchange Treaty was signed, and the island was colonised by Turks. Since this incident, there has been no further farming on the island.

Those travelling to this island from surrounding provinces like Eskişehir, Bursa, or Zmir must first arrive at Erdek pier before taking one of the Adalar 1, Gestaş, or Marmara Roro auto ships to the island.
