Due to the melting of its stones, the General Directorate of Foundations was able to build the Mama Hatun Complex in Erzincan’s Tercan neighbourhood. When the restoration and landscaping are completed, the complex, which bears witness to history, will reopen to visitors. The General Directorate of Foundations has nearly completed restoration work at the Mama Hatun Complex in Erzincan’s Tercan neighbourhood.

On the Erzincan-Erzurum caravan road, Mama Hatun, daughter of 2nd Izeddin Saltuk, one of the rulers of Saltuklu Principality, which rules in and around Erzurum, erected a caravanserai, hammam, mosque, and cubbet. The complex was restored by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2018, and the majority of the work has been concluded.

The restored stones melted and were replaced in the cub, caravanserai, hammam, and mosque as they melted over time. The complex will reopen to guests after the landscaping work around it is completed. Mama Hatun Complex, according to Ataturk University Art History Department Head Prof. Dr. Huseyin Yurttaş, was an influential figure during the Anatolian Seljuk period.

It’s worth noting that after the Battle of Malazgirt, the saltuklu principality was founded in Erzurum. He stated:

“Mama Hatun is the daughter of Izettin Saltuk, one of the founders of the principality. He takes his place when his father and brother Nasurittin Mohamed pass away. Mama Hatun is one of the last managers of saltukogulleri in Erzurum. Mama Hatun is very important in terms of Turkish history.”

According to a citizen, Mama Hatun’s historical edifice was one of the most prominent complexes of the Anatolian Seljuk period. We’re talking about Mama Hatun Tomb’s architecture. He added:

“There is another part of the structure around the tomb or tomb that we define as a siege wall. This is a form of structure that we have not seen many examples of in Anatolia. We can see the closest example of the tomb in the pavilion madrasa belonging to the Eretna children in Kayseri, which was built as a madrasa.”
